Pope Francis has taken it upon himself to assign his chief “alms-giver” along with off-duty Swiss guards to go out into the streets of Rome, reaching the poor. Two or three times each week, Archbishop Konrad Krajewski and a few guards hit the streets in the Archbishop’s humble white Fiat. They go to train stations and where charities have set up soup kitchens to give hands-on aid and comfort to the homeless and poor. They may take leftover meals from the Vatican kitchen, visit the sick and dying or provide funds to people who have been robbed.  All of this is done in the spirit of reaching the poor.

Thank you Pope Francis for reaching the poor and being mindful of the least among us.

“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40
