In June, 1981, in the Medjugorje section of a village in Western Herzegovina, two young girls, Ivankka Ivankovic (age 15) and Mirjana Dragicevic (age 16), were on their way home from an afternoon walk, when the Virgin Mary appeared to them.  Our Lady was dressed in white, was radiant and beautiful.  She was at the top of an adjacent hill.

The next day the girls brought four others with them to see Our Lady.  These were Vicka Ivankovic (age 16), Ivan Dragivevic (age 16), Maria Pavlovic (age 16), and Jakov Colo (age 10).  The children were transported supernaturally up the hill to the Holy Mother, who called herself the Queen of Peace.  Since that time, Mary has been giving messages to these seers for the entire world, and – to date – there have been thousands.

Yearly, Monthly and Daily Messages:

Our Lady appears to Ivanka once a year on June 25, which is the anniversary of the apparitions.  She also appears yearly to Jakov, the youngest of the visionaries, on Christmas Day.  Our Lady’s messages come to two of the visionaries monthly – to Mirjana on the 2nd of every month, and to Marija on the 25th. Vicka, Ivan and Marija receive daily apparitions from Our Lady.

The 10 Secrets:

Our Lady is the holder of 10 “secrets” that she has been gradually giving the visionaries.  Once they have received all 10 secrets, the daily visions cease.  Only Vicka, Ivan and Marija are waiting for the 10th secret. The secrets pertain to the visionaries personally, to the Church, to the sign (that will come later), to all humanity and to Medjugorje.

The Warnings:

According to the messages given to the visionaries, three warnings will be given to Mirjana.  Three days prior to the warnings, Mirjana will tell a priest of her choice about the upcoming warnings.  Mirjana’s notification of the priest will be a confirmation of the validity of Our Lady’s word.  After the first warning, the other warnings will follow shortly.  This is to give people more time to convert and repent.

The Sign:

After the last warning, a visible, lasting sign will be given at the place in Medjugorje where Mary first appeared.  After the sign is given, there will be little time for conversion and reconciliation.

Normal Lives:

After they were grown, the visionaries went on to live normal lives. They all got married and had children.  They all live as ordinary people in or near Medjugorje at least half of the year.

There have been Marian apparitions in many countries including those to the visionaries at Medjugorje.  The one thing that they all seem to have in common is that Our Lady chooses to appear to the lowly, the poor, the sick and the young (just as she did to the children in Medjugorje).  Her one desire and mission is to draw more people to her Son.
